
Jai Underhill
is an Artist, Goldsmith and Teacher. Jai studied Jazz Tap Dance after the styles of Leon Collins and others, with Judythe Lokich (now teaching in Atlantic City), and local Tap Diva, Dianne Walker. Jai also studied with the late Jimmy “Sir Slyde” Mitchell (former partner of Jimmy Slyde as one of the “Slyde” Brothers) and with the late Sue Ronson. Jai has been teaching adult beginner and intermediate tappers at the Kathy McCrohon Dance Center in Wellesley for the past four years, and also teaches the junior and senior company dancers. Now ending her second year at Tony Williams Dance Center, Jai has also taught at the Dance Complex in Cambridge. A middle school art teacher by day, Jai has been teaching at The Neighborhood School in Jamaica Plain for the past seven years. An avid gardener and designer, she enjoys jewelry designing and goldsmithing in her J.P. studio. Jai is the designer and creator of the “Tapestry Teaching Award” presented annually (for the past ten years), in Lexington on National Tap Dance.
