Driven always by the transformative power of the arts, retired international ballet star Tony Williams carries on a legacy of excellent arts education fortified by a culturally diverse body of artists.

Mr. Williams was born in Naples, Italy, and raised in Jamaica Plain and Roxbury, living in the Bromley-Heath housing project from age 8 to young adulthood. At age 16 and after experiencing trouble as a street gang member, Mr. Williams — strongly athletic and trained in ballet under Tatiana Babuskina — received a scholarship from the Boston School of Ballet, which changed his life forever. Bolstered by the support of his teachers, this opportunity launched Mr. Williams toward international acclaim, and a calling: to create opportunities for others and champion diversity in dance.
El Sr. Williams nació en Nápoles, Italia, y se crió en Jamaica Plain y Roxbury, donde vivió en el proyecto de viviendas Bromley-Heath desde los 8 años hasta la edad adulta. A los 16 años y después de experimentar problemas como miembro de una pandilla callejera, Williams, muy atlético y entrenado en ballet con Tatiana Babuskina, recibió una beca de la Escuela de Ballet de Boston, que cambió su vida para siempre. Through Tony Williams Dance Center, Tony’s vision is to provide excellent arts education to all of Boston’s diverse communities by welcoming and celebrating each dancer’s heritages, identities, and unique experiences.
